Altaf Hussain’s arrest: London police issues statement
London: Metropolitan Police issued a statement confirming that a man was arrested for a series of speeches allegedly made by individuals involved in the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Pakistan.
MQM founder Altaf Hussain was arrested in an attack on the Scotland Yard in London on Tuesday.
"The 60-year-old man was arrested at an address in northwest London. He was arrested on suspicion of deliberately encouraging or assisting in violation of article 44 of the Serious Crimes Act of 2007," the Metropolitan Police said.
He was detained at PACE and taken to the police station in South London, where he is still being detained by the police.
“As part of the investigation, police officers are searching at the address in northwest London. Detectives are also searching at a separate commercial address in northwest London.”
The survey, led by officials of the Metropolitan Anti-Terrorism Command, focuses on speeches made by individuals related to the Pakistan MQM campaign in August 2016 and other speeches previously broadcast by the same person.
According to the survey, throughout the investigation, the police have been in contact with the Pakistani authorities regarding our ongoing investigation and added that “this case continues to be investigated”.
